Bio Prac
I have been told that i think of well, lame and fantastic ideas. so i have decided to revive this blog by starting a series called Ethan's Lame Idea Of The Week. Of course, this need not be a once weekly event, cos i think of lame ideas quite frequently. this week, my topic is bio prac.
Abstract:
There are no more bio practicals this year, and the sec 4 bio students are terrified of hearing mr. see talk chim for 1hr20mins every week. However, mr. see himself dreads talking to what he describes as a wall for 1hr20mins. Therefore, today I shall propose a viable solution to all of this, as mr. see has kindly explained that we can conduct more practicals if we wish.
Intro:
In the wake of recent government enthusiasm in 'experiential' learning, and emphasize on an 'out-of-class' environment, I have thought of a radical new practical which would be fun and educational for all involved. Instead of using the Simpson's Biodiversity Index in a small hula hoop in a school field, why not go outdoors, to Bukit Timah Nature Reserve, for example, and find out the biodiversity there? Now, to the aim.
Aim:
To calculate the biodiversity of bukit timah nature reserve.
Apparatus:
Eyes
Hide
Scent-masking lotion
Procedure:
1. Go to BTNR, and apply lotion to prevent being smelt.
2. Hide in the hide, in order to be hidden from sight.
3. Observe the surroundings, and count the number of animals passing through the place.
4. Do this for the entire practical, and at the end use the Index to calculate the results and submit a report by monday.
5. If needed, a make-up can be done on Thursdays after school, but the Reserve must be left by 4.15 so the Rangers can go home.
WARNING: DO NOT FEED THE MONKEYS. THEY BITE. PYTHONS ARE DANGEROUS, DON'T GO NEAR ONE AND POKE IT WITH A STICK.
Conclusion:
I believe that this would be a viable and fun practical to carry out. mr.see has already said he can provide the lotion, while we can provide the eyes. If the park ranges cannot provide a hide, an army style, digging of holes and wearing of helmets and face paints, method can be used instead. This will enable us to blend in with the environment.
